Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
It hasn't even started to snow yet, but because there is a 60% chance of precipitation and 31 degrees out (read: frozen rain/ snow/ ice) they have already called a two-hour delay for 233 school districts, businesses, day-cares, pre-schools and churches.
I don't know if I will ever get used to this... it makes me laugh everytime.

I like to tell people that the high school that I student taught at in Bozeman, MT had NEVER, in it's over 100 year history, called off for a snow day. While I student taught we were blanketed in 3+ feet of snow... still no snow day. Man, I am far from home!
i don't disagree that it is a bit over the top how southerners (me being a proud one) shy at the sound of snow, running to the grocery store for bread and milk and delaying school. but really, what kid doesn't love a snow day?
Tim and I were just talking about this yesterday. It makes us laugh too, both being from PA and NY during our school years.
Yes, well, I went to the grocery store yesterday AM & stocked up....;)
My dad thinks it's hilarious. He grew up in MI and we lived in SD when I was born. No cancellin' nothin' for a couple snowflakes.

Hey, be gentle. I never accuse you of being a baby when you are uncomfortable when it's hot and humid.
I think it's all about what is familiar to you. When my friends took a summer honeymoon in Maine, they laughed at all of the over-the-top health warnings because the temperatures were going to reach the low 80s. People are uncomfortable when the weather is way different than what they are used to. Sure, there are premature cancellations down here, but the piedmont of NC understandably doesn't spend a huge amt of money on winter weather equipment, so officials err on the side of caution when they're thinking about running buses. When you're a student (or a teacher), snow days are wonderful!!!
One of my favorite snow days ever was when I was visiting y'all in Va and we went to the Library of Congress. I'm so glad that we flushed those ice cubes!
Elizabeth, you've got to admit that it's pretty ridiculous that the schools announce delays and closings due to weather predictions. When have the predictions ever been right? When we were kids, we never got out because of predictions. And as fun as snow days are, wasn't it so much fun sitting in class, looking out the window, praying for the first flakes and then screaming "LOOK IT'S SNOWING!!!" as soon as the smallest speck hit the glass? And I am the first to admit that I called the people in Maine babies too. Don't be sensitive when we can all laugh at each others' weirdness.
All we got was dadgum cold rain.
