So I took Halleigh this afternoon to have her staples removed. Her wound looks great and is on it's way to a full mend. She was a trooper getting the staples out, just sat there with her taggie and thumb. The doctor was totally impressed. So now she can swim and bathe normally again, which is great. Parenting trauma #2 sucessfully navigated. (#1 of course was the pill scare on Christmas eve).
So last night was our summer solstice party, which was totally awesome AND so much fun... I didn't take a single picture because I was too busy enjoying my great company! Maybe a picture or two will pop up on someone's blog. I think I saw Erin with her camera?
Anyway, we were sitting around, hanging out after almost everyone had gone with Aaron, Sara and Anna Rose and we were talking about Star Trek and all the funny technological inventions that they supposed for the future. My favorite one, that I think about often, was the automatic page turner that Jean Luc Picard had for his books that he read. All he had to do was press this little button and the book holder (he didn't even have to hold the book) would turn the page for him. As a bibliophile, I was so in awe of this piece of "technology." Once I shared that with the group, they all started laughing and talking about how they were surprised that an automatic page turner was the best that they (the creators/ writers for Star Trek) could come up with... I mean really, they couldn't think up digital books?
So then today I was looking on Amazon for the next book on the list for book club and I ran across this.... I NEED ONE! How cool is that, never again would you have to go on vacation and finish the book that you brought on day two only to spend the rest of the vacation without something to read. Miles, wouldn't this be great? No more Nora Roberts or cheesy Reader's Digest Spy novel at the beach house!
So many of you have read Miles' account of our trip to the doctor last night, if you haven't, read it here. It was not a fun experience, but we all got through it... I even held her while she got a shot of Lidocaine. She didn't have sedation as Miles said, but the Lidocaine did numb it totally, so she didn't feel the staples go in.
I had to sleep in her bedroom last night and wake her up every three hours, so we are a little bleary eyed today, but Halleigh is totally acting normal, she is sitting in her rocking chair with taggie and a book reading about Mia Hamm playing soccer. We can't wash her hair for 48 hours so I have her hair up in a pony tail and besides a little pink tinge in some of her hairs, you can't tell anythng is a out of the ordinary.
Anyway, here are some pictures of the wound. Sorry, they are kinda gross.
The second annual Olds Beach Week took place this year at Holden Beach, NC. Dad, Taryn, Brie, Baylee, Blaze, Miles, Halleigh and I all stayed at the beach house all week. My Granny, Grandpa, Great Aunt Barbara, Uncle Jasper, and Aunt Becky all came for a couple days in the middle of the week. We enjoyed having the mid-week people come; it made it different than last year, and helped us not dwell on missing Ben.
We spent pretty much every minute that we could on the beach swimming, looking for shells, riding bikes, body surfing, sunbathing, visiting, and slathering Halleigh with sunscreen. Which brings me to the week's biggest accomplishment... Everyone got sunburned, at least a little bit, except Halleigh. She kind of had a faint swimming suit line by the last day, but not one iota of pink on that girl! YES!
Miles and I felt like we started the week with a baby and came back with a kid. She really blossomed around her uncle and aunts into a little girl who is more of a kid than a baby. She added several words to her vocabulary, which was really fun for my family to participate in. Much thanks to Brie for teaching her "belbow" elbow. You can see in one of the above pictures that Halleigh had her first ponytail; that was a big hit with her dad. He always wants me to put her hair in a ponytail. You can also tell from the pictures that she wanted for nothing all week. People doted on her like she was the Queen of Sheba... it has made this week difficult at times. It seems that I am just not as cool as Uncle Blaze. he he he
We liked Holden Beach so much that I think we are going back there next year... I can't wait!
We had a very eventful Memorial Day weekend, and if you would like to read all about it, I would like to draw you attention to my friend Amanda's blog for a detailed run down of all that we did. click here There are also some great pictures of us picking the berries on her blog too!
After picking the berries, Sara came over and we made Strawberry Jam!
So my mom was here, after Ben's graduation, I know it was a long time ago, but I would remiss if I didn't post about this. Anyway, on May 6th I went to go vote in the democratic primaries at the North Carolina School of Science and Math. When we got there there were a ton of people there waiting for something. They all had signs and were lined up along the driveway. Soon, though, we found out what they were waiting for as a motorcade pulled up and out jumped Bill Clinton. I know crazy huh?
Usually I would not be that excited about anything having to do with Hillary Clinton, but this was different. It was Presiden William Jefferson Clinton. It isn't often that you are a driveway away from the former leader of the free world. It was pretty cool, my mom even admitted that it was pretty neat. In the bottom picture Clinton is circled in red. Look my mom and Halleigh had their picture taken with a president! lol
Well after a very fun filled week with my family we are back. They leave in the morning... sad!
We have to upack, do some laundry, weed the garden and go to the grocery store; but as soon as that is all done, I'll post some pictures of our beach week.
On a gross note, yesterday I ripped my toenail off. It is sick, I wont share pictures of that with you, but I think that I will have to go to the doctor. Blech!
